IT’S ABOUT
IDEAS

Ideas—we all have them. They may come and go in a flash or linger for weeks. They start out fragile yet can become unstoppable. How do we make ideas bigger, better, more beautiful? Paper is just the beginning. We’d like to share a bit more about what’s to come.

BETTER IDEAS,
BETTER CREATORS

Two years ago, we came together as a group of creators from Xbox, Courier, Sonos, Google, and beyond because we needed better tools for creating. Last year we released Paper, the simplest and most beautiful way to capture ideas on the iPad. Since then, Paper has won many major industry awards, reimagined basic tools like color and zoom, and was named App of the Year by Apple. It’s been downloaded over 8 million times by creators all around the world creating over 80 million ideas and spending over 800 years making something rather than nothing.

Yet there is much more to do. We are especially focused on two areas:

TRUE COLLABORATION—Social media has changed the way we communicate, but real collaboration has been left behind. Still nothing has surpassed the simple act of sitting down in a room with a group of motivated people. We believe a breakthrough around collaboration will revolutionize the creative process. How we work together. How we discover new collaborators to work with.

PHYSICAL CREATION—Tools have helped us evolve and we’ve evolved to use tools as a way to extend our ability to express something. And that doesn’t end at the touch screen. Moving beyond touch and into the physical world of accessories opens up creating with greater dexterity and expressiveness.

BIG IDEAS
NEED
BIG PARTNERS

Today we welcome Chris Dixon and the Andreessen Horowitz team (who’ve worked with top toolmakers GitHub, Pinterest, and Instagram) alongside Highline Ventures, Thrive Capital, SV Angels, Jack Dorsey, and others to help us build the essential suite of mobile tools for creativity.

With their partnership we’ll be able to expand our software, service, and hardware teams to take on bigger questions around collaboration and physical creation.

“IT’S IN THE ACT OF MAKING THINGS THAT WE FIGURE OUT WHO WE ARE.”
AUSTIN KLEON

The sign of a great tool is in what others make with it. We’ve been blown away by the ideas created and shared with Paper over this past year (Made With Paper). Creators from all around the world have created things we never could’ve imagined from presentations by Jack Dorsey, to design student Andrew Kim, to Pixar artist Everett Downing, to science teachers sharing a lesson plan.

And for us, that’s the best reward of all—a world with more ideas, more creativity.
